Love, Pink and Such | Alena + Vitaly | Wedding Photoshoot
June 28, 2017 by Afrik Armando in Stories, wedding 0 Comments

I never seize to be amazed by the wonder of time, today a child is born and next, they’re off to starting a family. Alena, Vitaly and I have been friends for almost 6 years now and the inception of our bond goes back to a church kitchen. Back in the day, while Vitaly managed the finances for the youth ministry at our church, Alena was in charge of preparing snacks for the after church party. I, on the other hand, was a professional sandwich taster, a troll who always lurked in the kitchen in hopes of getting extra sandwiches. As pertaining to how they started dating, I perceive that since Alena had to always ask Vitaly for money to make the snacks, it wasn’t long till they realized that they were perfect for each other. Many things have changed since then but the constant I’ve observed all these years is their ever beaming personalities. Alena, kind & Calm as always and Vitaly an expert at making the heart merry. Not only did I have the honor of being a part of their wedding as a fellow Omie (what we call our friend group) but I was also entrusted with the ultimate task of documenting a day so full of […]

Tea and Love | Engagement Photoshoot | Sergey+Kat

Their hearts are cageless birds which will forever fly together. It was a warm fall evening when I met Sergey and Kat for the first time in person. We had talked over the phone before & I’d seen some old pictures of them on social media but nothing could prepare me for this awe-inspiring experience when they welcomed me into their home. As we talked over tea, I couldn’t help but bask in the kindness of their presence. They had such a simple and deep love for each other, the glow on their faces as they told me stories of their relationship was undeniable. “Why don’t we have tea in the woods for our engagement session” said Kat. And it wasn’t long till this idea became a vision and the vision a reality. On the day of their engagement photo shoot, there were a few hurdles like traffic causing a little delay and Sergey forgetting his shoes at home ( we always joke about this now) but all these little imperfections made everything even more perfect. On that day we didn’t just have a photo session, we enjoyed the moment, we made memories and we had lots of laughs. It […]

Sparks Fly | Wedding Photos | Aleks+Angelika
May 10, 2017 by Afrik Armando in Stories, wedding 0 Comments

. “Maybe this was a mistake” I thought to myself, as I walked along the dock I could see nothing but the darkness of night. The trees were silent and the birds had all taken shelter. It was cold, lonely and picth black. How could a day so filled with wonder and love, end in such an unpleasant manner. It was an honor working with these two. It’s always exciting to work with those who trust you and let you take creative control. Throughout her wedding day, Angelika maintained a spirit of serenity. Whenever something went wrong or not as planned she’d just smile. All that mattered to her was the love of her life, the one with whom her heart would remain knitted to forever. Nevertheless, when we got to Penns landing, it seemed as though this creative ship I’d taken control of was about to crash. It was the photo location we had picked and the lighting was no bueno, it was cold and the only signs of life were the boats being tossed to and fro by the river waves. My lizard brain was panicking and my fingers were frozen. It was time to take photos and […]

Beyond the facade | Dima | Lifestyle Photoshoot
May 3, 2017 by Afrik Armando in Family, Stories 1 Comment

How far would you go in pursuit of your dreams?.  We’ve all got ambitions, desires, and dreams but like someone rightly said: ” A dream without a plan or corresponding action, is but a mere wish.” Dima’s dreams have not only made him move from a distant country to the United States, but they’ve also given him the stamina to withstand all the odds and oppositions he encounters. Beyond the facade of his appearance, there’s a story of courage and endurance, for this reason, I felt honored to document the sprouting of his ambitions. And for you my reader, don’t wait, the best time to start pursuing your dreams is now. DimaBaltimore, MD

Paris didn’t give me a love story.
April 19, 2017 by Afrik Armando in Stories 3 Comments

I’m currently the groomsman for two of my closest friends, I’ve been invited to quite a few weddings and I’m documenting the stories of a handful of beautiful lovers. And no, this isn’t a lifelong experience, it’s all happening this summer. I think I’m the only single person among my close friends, as though third wheeling wasn’t enough 3 years ago, now I have to answer questions as to when I’m getting married & why I’m still single. So I finally land in Paris and mind you I grew up watching French Love cinema (I can explain some other day), expectations were high and I couldn’t help but wonder if I’d be painting or drawing any French girls (of course with their clothes on). Maybe the next morning, I’d be bringing someone French toast in bed after a good nights rest (don’t worry I’m waiting till marriage). Yes, all those years of studying French would go beyond using “ qui, qui” with my friends. And most importantly, I’d get to show off my French cuisine skills (omelettes count guys). I mean look at all these apartments, look at all these people, there’s got to be a love story in the making. Nevertheless, cupid was on vacation, I had three hours to explore the city […]
